Was it worth sullying your reputation among every criminal defense lawyer in the state just so Kathy Belich could get a story? Was it worth having your claims of “professionalism” published on Mr. Boedeker’s blog on the same day you sold out an entire organization.

And for those that are interested, I did verify that Mr. Sheaffer lied to obtain the seminar materials. Apparently FACDL was concerned that the audio would be leaked, so they set up a system to stream the audio.
Mr. Sheaffer called FACDL headquarters and claimed he was having a hard time hearing the audio and would like to have a copy sent to him. He went so far as to say he needed it so that he could maintain his death penalty qualifications.
FACDL believed Mr. Sheaffer and sent him the audio as he requested – he immediately turned it over to Ms. Belich. The rest is history – just like his reputation among his colleagues.

As a side-note, I was informed that when this situation was brought to the attention of the News Director for WFTV-ABC, he was the consummate professional and removed all references at the request of FACDL. I would like to not only commend him for that, I would like to say thank you.

It is not that we were trying to hide anything – it is that people talk candidly at seminars. And when you are among your colleagues, you assume they will not sell you out.
Mr. Sheaffer violated the trust of an entire organization. It really is that simple.

Both sides the Prosecutors and the defense lawyers have these seminars.They are a place for them to bounce strategies ,idea’s, and tactics on how to build the best possible case.
It is a place for each side to feel secure enough to relax and learn from each other.It is not one-sided as WFTV.COM made it out to be.

Mr. Hornsby there only a few people that should be ashamed over the events of the last few days, one of which is YOU. The other are the defense lawyers representing Casey. Andrea L. is obviously ashamed of her comments made about Jurors and female prosecutors. I would expect more from a “professional” and I use that term lightly. When “officers of the court” can degrade others of the profession using the terms Andrea did, NONE of us are served from her presence.
That being said, your behavior over Mr. Scheaffer’s comments are below professional and as far as I am concerned no TV station in Orlando, or anywhere else, should ever allow you to speak out on legal matters on their station again.

The FACDL needed to be concerned the audio would be released. It was a disgraceful lecuture and the public’s reaction was justifiable outrage. What do you mean he sold out your organization? Mr. Sheaffer exposed something ugly about defense tactics and as far as I am concerned he should have “whistle blower” protection.

You guys do not understand, the ramifications of those recordings being release are going to be felt in the law community from USA to Canada.
It would be obtuse to think the Prosecution did not have speakers whom stood up among their peers and did not say something negative about a judge,or defense attorneys they have faced.
That is Just one of the reasons that a disclosure agreement is signed when you attend.
For me it is not who released it, but the fact it was released.
